Cassper Nyovest 's Thuto Album Review

The multi-award winning rapper, Cassper Nyovest is set to release his 3rd and much anticipated album, titled "Thuto" on the 7th of May. The Family Tree record label owner held a private listening session last night at Yamaha World in Sandton, which DJ's Production attended.

We did not know what to expect from the new album, apart from the latest single which was released this about a month ago called "Tito Mboweni", so this was something to look forward to.

"Thuto" is a 16 track album, with only 6 names showing up in the features. Featured artists on the album are Nadia Nakai, Tshego, Riky Rick, Goapele, the legendary Tshepo Tshola & Black Thought from the US based group, The Roots. "Thuto" is basically broken up into 3 major segments in terms of music direction, which Cassper was glad to share a more indepth view with us. Let's summarise the segments as follows:

From Track 1 to Track 5, Cassper opens up to us on a more personal basis. These songs talk about the ups and downs of his love life, the wrongs and rights he did throughout his relationships, and how he sees and feels what love should be. Ending off with a tribute to his father where he features Tshepo Tshola, who happens to be his father's favourite artist.

Track 6 to Track 9 looks more into how much life has changed for him. This is where he celebrates his success and achievements ever since he's been in the game. Cassper explained this part of the album as something he cannot simply ignore since he worked so hard to obtain. He explains how people allow you to talk about your humble beginnings when you're still trying to make it in the game, however the very same people will see you as being arrogant once you talk about the success you've gained. He wants people to look at this part of the album as more motivational to every young child who has a dream to not sit and wait for anything, but to get up and go get it, then celebrate it once they have it.

From Track 10 to Track 13, this is more of a "Turn Up" vibe. These are the songs for the clubs, for the parties, for those who want to have fun and just enjoy the moment wherever they are. As many would expect, there are a lot of lyrics about money, cars, cribs and riches. Cassper explained how he will not stop talking about these things, and he had this to say "If you've never been poor, then you'll never understand my pain. If you've never been rich, then you'll never understand my joy."

The last part of the album is still vibey, however you can tell that there was more thought put into these songs apart from them being bangers. Cassper also predicts one of the last 3 songs to be the next Song Of The Year, called "Baby Girl". In my honest opinion, this was the song I enjoyed the most in the Turn Up segment on the album. Thuto closes off with a song called "Amen Hallelujah", which is more of a Gospel song, with a more Pop Culture feel to it. On this song, he expresses gratitude for the love from family, friends and God. He explained how much his family supported him in his most lowest of moments in his life, and how thankful he is for everything they have done for him.

In this album, it is evident that there is a major change and growth in Cassper, not only as an artist but as a man as well. When listening to Thuto, you can't help but immediately identify the things that have been an influence in his life, and how he has grown from them to being a better person, which has ultimately played a major role in the music. I for one, enjoyed every single moment of every single song on Thuto, and I would definitely recommend it to everyone. This is definitely worth spending your last cent on.
