WEEKLY HIP HOP FEATURE: PROKID "PRO"

Linda Mkhize also known as Pro or Prokid was born 25 June 1981 in Deipkloof Soweto. The aspiring young rapper started rapping in his local community and would rap in the train while going to school with his friends, as time went past his skill and passion for rap grew. He formed a rap group with his friends and performed in the local community hip hop session amongst some of the big hip hop stars of that era such as Pitch Black Afro.

His eagerness to make it in the hip hop scene became bigger, and realised that his passion and talent was way ahead of his team members, thereafter he decided to moves towards his solo journey. In 2004 he finally broke in to the hip hop industry when he signed a deal with Gallo Records and released his first official album titled "Head and Tales" featuring his hit single "Hozuzobabona"

Today after 6 albums later he is undoubtedly one of SA's best Hip Hop artists. He dominates not only the township market but also the Suburban market. His mad hip hop skills and rhymes

has separated him from with competitors. His ability to combine

venac and english in his rap proved that he was a force to be
reckoned with. 

He has founded his clothing label called Dankie San and just recently established his own recording label called "M.F.E", which he will be the first artists signed to it, including his protégée Red Button. Brands have associated themselves with Pro such as Fish Eagle, DSTV and Converse. They want to leverage through their association with Pro. He has surely grown his brand and is adored by millions of fans around the country.

Pro has been nominated in the 2013 Metro Awards Best Hip Hop of the Year Album which many experts feel he stands a very good chance of taking it. It is however a very close and difficult group as Khuli Chana, Zakwe, Teargas and Suga Smax give him a run for the trophy.

He is currently working of his next album and should be on the shelves by June 2013.
