WEEKLY HOUSE FEATURE: VETKUK VS MAHOOTA


DJ Mahoota is one of South Africa's most successful and popular urban music brands. Born Zynne Sibika, Mahoota has had a long, rich, successful career in music. A founder member of Trompies, one of the original Kwaito groups, a group that has consistently topped the charts in South Africa over the past fifteen years. He is also a partner in the top SA independent music label, Kalawa Jazmee Records, the home of Oskido, Don Laka, Boom Shaka, Mafikizolo, Bongo Maffin, Spikiri, Tira, Big Nuz and many more successful acts.

Along with Jotham Mbuyisa (Vetkuk), Zynne forms half of the top duo of Vetkuk vs. Mahoota. The duo has released 6 successful albums to date. Three of these, Lesedi, Tshiamo and Denaledi went Gold and total sales to date are in excess of 400,000 copies. Noted for their sophisticated dress style and foot stomping, often sexy, hits, Vetkuk vs. Mahoota have been riding high for over ten years. Their current hit single, Stokvel features Dr Malinga.

In addition to producing hot albums, Vetkuk vs. Mahoota are a top deejay outfit in great demand. The famous "Mahoota on the right and Vetkuk on the left" combination is constantly on the road, with bookings every week around the entire country. Miami, London, Ibiza and Mauritius are also frequent playing destinations. They are truly an international success!

Mahoota is a co-host and founder of The Spring Day Music Explosion, a twelve show, ten city music festival that is in its tenth year and features 65 artists and deejays from both South Africa and abroad. This is a major event on the South African music calendar.
