South Africa's largest live music festival, The Cape Town International Jazz Festival (CTIJF) takes place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC), 28-29 March 2014. Organiser espAfrika is bringing together a selection of the best local and international artists as requested by the fans - the ‘festinos' - and the 15th festival includes some of the most popular performances from the last 14 years.
CEO of espAfrika, Rashid Lombard says this year's line-up is great. "We've listened to our fans and we think we've got an even more exciting - and crowd-pleasing - festival. After all, it is called Africa's grandest gathering."
Supporting the festival and particularly in 2014 which marks South Africa's 20th anniversary of freedom and democracy, Minister of Arts and Culture, Mr Paul Mashatile says: "The Cape Town International Jazz Festival is a great reflection of how far we have come as a nation. The festival showcases our brilliant local talent, while also attracting leading jazz artists from all over the world. This has allowed the CTIJF to help grow a larger skills base within our creative sector, which, in turn, helps strengthen and celebrate our cultural diversity."

Patricia De Lille, Executive Mayor of Cape Town says: "The CTIJF helps bring people from diverse backgrounds together in a shared common love of jazz. In doing so, the festival helps to showcase the city and how its inclusive approach is of paramount importance. As such, the city salutes the 15th year of the CTIJF and will continue to support the good work this important music festival does."
SABC spokesperson, Kaizer Kganyago says: "The SABC continuously strives to empower and promote the local music industry while also exposing them to international talent. We are privileged to again be an official sponsor and exclusive broadcaster of the Cape Town International Jazz Festival.
The CTIJF allows the SABC to be a catalyst for positive social action and assists in transforming society through the content that it provides." The CTIJF is the biggest jazz music event in Africa and one of the first to offer a multi-stage experience. More than just the best music and entertainment festival on the continent - as voted by the fans - the CTIJF offers a sophisticated and comprehensive programme that will ensure the legacy of the festival. This programme encompasses a number of different workshops and interventions - everything from talent development to event management training - and continues throughout the year and makes music important, particularly for young South Africans.

"The social impact of the CTIJF also reflects the 20 years of democracy that South Africa will be celebrating in 2014" said Lombard, "coupled with the fact that Jazz itself is democratic embracing as it does, many different genres and beats, we know that the 2014 Festival and its attendant events, will continue to spark the change needed to ensure that the legacy Madiba created, continues to be fulfilled."

The official sponsors for the Cape Town International Jazz Festival 2014 are the Department of Arts and Culture and the SABC (broadcast). Other sponsors include Brandhouse, South African Tourism, City of Cape Town, the Western Cape Government and Peninsula Beverages. "Article from MIO"
