Last night the first group of the SA Idols Top 16 tried their best to impress the live audience and judges in a bid to make it to the Top 10.
The eight finalists gave their all. The first group is made up of Bongi Slinda, Celine Homan, Chante Geary, Ivan Roux, London Louw, Mirandi Smith,Vincent Bones and Vincent Verhoog.
South African Rapper Kwesta opened the show in style together with a rock band, CrashCarburn. Their performance set the tone for the night. The theme for the show was the Top 20 hit songs. Host Proverb asked the judges to all say who their favourite contestants were and both Unathi Msengana and Randall Abrahams chose Celine Homan. she performed XO by beyonce with an added rock element that she is known for.
The fan fovourite was London Louw, who revealed on stage that he had lost 47kg since last year when he auditioned.
London has auditioned every year since 2008, never making it past the first round audition - until this year. The judges found Chante Geary's performance too polished. Gareth Cliff Complain that it lacked any "edginess".
This Sunday will be the turn of the second group of eight: Demi Lee, Kyle Deutchmann, Lize Mynhardt, Musa Mashiane, Olivia Cloud, Rowan de Villiers and Roxy McDean. Proverb Will explain how the voting will work in the next week's episode. Voting lines are now open, go to http://idolssa.dstv.com/ for voting details.
