The iconic Durban July is not only Durban’s most glamorous event, but one of the biggest horse racing events in Africa. It is took place this year on the 4th of July 2015 in its usual home at the 2800m long track at the Greyville Racecourse.

This year, racing fans expected a visual voyage of sartorial elegance as the 119th edition of the iconic race day is staged to a nautical theme of “The Captains Table”. The Vodacom Durban July draws heavily on horseracing’s deeply-rooted tradition of elegance and chic fashion, and this year tapped into the formal style expected from a dinner at a cruise liner Captain’s Table dinner.
As with the Met, the Vodacom Durban is strongly associated with fashion. This event is not only a great opportunity for designers but also a fun spectator event, with clothes being modelled in a fashion show. Other fashion competitions on the day include the Kiss Most Striking Couple, Classic Race Wear (male and female categories) and Exceptional Race Day Hat or Fascinator.

The race course action took place in Durban’s Golden Mile area, which encompasses the beach front and surrounding areas running from South Beach (site of uShaka Marine World) to the Sun Coast Casino in the North. The area boasts lovely, action-packed beaches and accessibility to the city.
