The internationally renowned artist is now facing a possible lawsuit from the Royal Park Hotel for breach of contract.
Royal Park business manager Prince Koekemoer confirmed they were suing Black Coffee, real name Nkosinathi Maphumulo, for withdrawing from the gig at the last minute.
"We just had other excuses while we waited for him to arrive, saying he can't perform at this kind of a club. We are planning to take legal action against Black Coffee because we booked him two months in advance and we are not happy with the way he dropped us after agreeing to come and perform.
"He probably doesn't understand the stature of the club, but Royal Park is very popular," said Koekemoer.
Koekemoer said Black Coffee told him that he had just released a new album and "couldn't be seen to be playing at a place with people like that".
He also revealed that another popular spinner, DJ Shimza, was expected to share the the stage with Back Coffee but also pulled a fast one after learning that the international DJ had withdrawn from the do.
"DJ Shimza also changed his mind after hearing that Black Coffee was no longer coming," said Koekemoer.
Black Coffee and his manager Amaru da Costa could not be reached for comment at the time of going to print.
The award-winning DJ's failure to pitch up did not only leave a bitter taste in the mouth of the hotel management.
A stripper, who did not want to be identified, said she was disappointed that the DJ ditched them at the 11th hour when she was looking forward to enjoying his performance.
"I have seen him perform before, he knows his story. When they mounted the posters in here that Black Coffee was coming I was so happy and looking forward to meeting him. I wanted to kiss him and give him everything a woman can give a man.
"But he disappointed me, I guess he chickened out because he was scared that his wife would know that he was at a strip club," she said.
Another exotic dancer, who also did not want to be identified, echoed her colleague's sentiment.
"The money they paid him and the one he made from his other gigs is the same. There is no difference, it's all money. There is no dirty money and there is no clean money. I'm disappointed at him," she said.
But another burlesque queen held a different view.
"I was shocked when they told us that he was coming to perform here. This is a strip club and not suitable for any artist who takes himself seriously.
"What was his wife going to say? We were obviously going to mob him and demand that he give us money. Imagine being mobbed by lap dancers, I would have done the same if I were him. I'm not doing what I'm doing because I'm proud, but because of circumstances. I applaud him for coming to his senses," she said.
