Kid X may have dropped one of the hottest mixtapes in recent history, but not everyone in the industry is celebrating.
When Kid X released his 3/4 Pace mixtape this week, many called it a stroke of genius. But SAMA-award winning hip hop artist, Mr Selwyn has called foul on the album art, claiming X stole it from his Foundation album.
But Kid X's music label, Cashtime, deny that they have done anything wrong, saying their designer simply used a common stock image.
"Like any other designer, our designer purchased a stock image to use. Selwyn may have used the same stock image in 2009, but he did not create the concept of a running track in the middle of a field, that existed as a stock image," Cashtime's Thabiso told The Juice.
"Our designer brought the mixtape cover to us, unaware of Selwyn's cover. I spoke to X and asked him if he was inspired by Selwyn's cover and X told me he had never even seen Selwyn's cover before," he added.
Kid X is not the first local artist to be accused of stealing cover art ideas. A few weeks ago Black Coffee fought claims that he had also copied another artist's album
