House and dance music sensation DJ Shimza has fallen out with his boss Black Coffee and his record label, Soulistic Music.
According to a Sunday World report, a music official close to Soulistic Music, a recording label owned by Black Coffee, claimed DJ Shimza walked away because he felt his debut album was not given the full support when it came to marketing.
According to Sunday World , International house and dance music darling Black Coffee's latest album Pieces Of Me has torn his relationship with DJ Shimza.
The fallout between these two titans stems from allegations that Black Coffee signed DJ Shimza to clip his wings so he could enjoy the limelight alone.
Shimza (26), a self-taught producer who learned the art of spinning decks from his brother Kgomotso, told Sunday World he was leaving Black Coffee's record label Soulistic Music.
He added that his move was because of Black Coffee's alleged dirty tricks.
"Black Coffee, as my boss, has never mentioned my album, including when it was released," said DJ Shimza.
"I feel he should have at least done that, then my album wouldn't be sitting at 8500 copies sold since June. Many people feel the same way."
The young DJ declined to answer more questions, but saidhe would be focusing on his company Shimuzic Productions, registered back in 2011.
"I've been pushing my album alone from day one, and really don't want to point fingers at anyone," he said.
"All I can say is that young and talented artists must do things for themselves and not sign with big labels."
Black Coffee, born Nkosinathi Maphumulo, had not responded to questions at the time of going to press.
Instead, he confronted DJ Shimza about Sunday World's enquiry.
A music official close to Soulistic Music claimed DJ Shimza walked away from the music stable because he felt his debut album wasn't given full support when it came to marketing.
"It's very sad when an artist does not get full support from his company. DJ Shimza is a household name, but that does not mean he doesn't need support when it comes to his first project," said the official, who requested to remain anonymous.
"All the resources have been put in place to promote Black Coffee, as if he's the only artist within the stable."
The official further alleged that some record labels sign talented artists they deem threats in order to frustrate their careers.
"This has been happening for many years, where an artist is signed because they are seen as a threat to another artist," he said.
"They are signed with a lot of promises. And as soon as they sign, they are micromanaged."
In February, Culolethu "Culoe" Zulu also left Black Coffee's stable to join Universal Music, allegedly for the same reasons.
