This is Mi Casa’s fourth album, after Mi Casa (2011), Su Casa (2013) and Home Sweet Home (2015), which all went on to achieve platinum status.
“It’s very different to the other albums because we made it document a very important thing we went through,” says J Something. “We almost broke up and that’s why it’s called Famila, because that experience reminded us how much we have fought for this band and how much it means to us. The album’s music is the sound you know Mi Casa for, but put on a beach in Brazil with a lot of people having fun. It’s a very latin-inspired, vibey project.”
Tomorrow the band will launch the album at the Goodluck Bar in Johannesburg with the support of a line-up including Shekhinah, DJ Fresh, Shimza, Mo Flava and DJ Soul Healer. Then on Sunday, they fly off to the UK to launch the album in London and Birmingham, before returning to launch it all over South Africa.
“Six years ago, we were complete strangers, today we are brothers,” says J Something. “Back then, nobody knew who we were, today we have thousands of fans all around the globe. This album is all about our journey as brothers, as a band, as a group, as a team, as a movement, as a familia.”
