ROLLING WITH CELEBS TO PROFILE BUJY,BOITY,TEKO,DR MALINGA JUST TO NAME A FEW

Ever wondered what became of child kwaito star Mzambiya or where Dr Malinga learned those amazing kicks? ‘Rolling with celebs’ provides answers to these questions in the new season.

The show which has previously taken us into the lives of SA stars such as Zola, Kelly Khumalo and Mandoza will now be focusing on the on a variety of South African musicians, actors and sports stars.
Every week viewers will get to see one of the stars as they spend time with their family and friends, while dealing with every day obstacles and challenges.
Nkosinathi ‘Mzambiya’ Zwane who burst onto the music scene in the early 2000s with his track
‘Kumele Senzeni’ is one of those who will be featured in the show.
“I’ve spent a bit of time away from the lime-light and a lot of people just assumed that I’m down and out but this show will set the record straight” says the 27-year-old singer.
According to Mzambiya the camera crew followed him around for almost a month as he went through his day to day activities.
“My fans will get to see my family, my production company as well as a meeting I had with businessman Patrice Motsepe,” he says.
“The show also coincides with the release of my latest single because although I have been focusing on the business side of things, the music is still important,” he adds.
In the past popular reality shows such as ‘Keeping up with the Kardashians’ and SA’s ‘Nonhle goes to Hollywood’ have been accused of being fake and scripted, however Mzambiya assures fans that this does not apply to “Rolling with Celebs”.
“I wouldn’t have agreed to do take part in it if that was the case. Lies like that would only catch up with me in the end. This show is a true reflection of my life,” he says.
Mzambiya is currently working on more tracks which he plans to release in the coming months.
Other celebrities who will be profiled in this fourth season of the show include Boity Thulo, Tumi Morake, Rebecca Malope, Teko Modise, Bujy Bikwa and Trevor Gumbi

Uhuru 's 2nd Annual Birthday Celebration

Engineers behind SA’s hottest kwaito and dance music are hosting their 2nd Birthday celebration as a group on the 15th June 2014 , Its a pre Youth day celebration. The event is hosted in one of pretoria 's hottest night spots " House 22".

Uhuru, signed under Kalawa Jazmee is currently dominating the music scenes on radio and television with their fresh new sounds. Their single ‘Y tjukutja’meaning shake yourself in ‘Portuguese’ is currently topping the local charts.

The group includes Maphorisa (Themba Sekowe), Mapiano(Nqobile Mahlanu), DJ Clap (Sihle Dlalisisa) and Xeli (Xelimpilo Simelane) have been generating big hits for big names such as DJ Zinhle, Dr Malinga, L’vovo and  Proffessor. These boys have raised the bars in the industry.

“Uhuru is not really a new group. Before signing into Kalawa, we were friends pushing contemporary African jazz. Back then it was just me, Maphorisa and Xeli.
“The three of us originate from Soshanguwe in Pretoria. We met Clap in Kalawa and we all formed a group called Uhuru,” Mapiano says.
The boys individually had a dream of signing into Kalawa, their different musical talent fused as one with the desire of creating an exclusive sound.
Maphorisa and DJ Clap are known as the DJs and producers. Mapiano is a pianist whilst Xeli is the vocalist.
The quartet refuses to give their sound a niche as they believe they are versatile offering a variety of sounds.
“We can sing, rap, touch on gospel as well appear as a dance music group,” DJ Clap says.
Music is what keeps these four going. Although their sound is liked by many they believe they have not arrived in the industry yet.

“We always produce, search for different styles of making music and trying to stay on top of our game. We live and eat music but we are not where we want to be yet, we are not musically free. We are still under construction. We want to reach an audience beyond Africa with a live performance,” Maphorisa calmly says.

TRESOR Riziky’s journey hasn’t been an easy one. He was a struggling musician working as security guard in Durban before getting recognition for his talents on platforms such as Idols Season 6 where he made it to the Top 30 but unfortunately had to drop out; and in 2012 he went on to win the Holiday Inn Express Songwriting Challenge by Rolling Stone Magazine and Intercontinental Hotel Group.

KWESTA DEFENDS 5FM DJ IN RACIST ATTACK

KWESTA'S RESPONSE TWEETS  IN DEFENSE OF 5FM RADIO DJ

KWESTA found himself at the center of another race row with 5fm this week this time in defense of a DJ who was attacked on twitter by a listener who requested that the station " play decent music" instead of "Zulu and Xhosa rap." This was sparked when the fan complained about a Kwesta song on which he collaborated with pop rock trio CrashCarBurn was played on the 5FM Top 40 Charts show.

The rapper whose latest album was voted Best Hip-hop album at the Metro FM awards earlier this year is no stranger to controversy after he blasted 5FM for marginalizing black artists in a now infamous open letter that prompted the station to playlist more rap artists like Cassper Nyovest who thanked Kwesta in an interview with V-Entertainment after his smash hit Doc Shebeleza was play listed by the station, going on to summit the Top 40 Chart.

The self-proclaimed King of African Rap was lauded by many in the Hip-hop community including such artists as Tumi from the Volume, multi-award winning HHP, Slikour of Skwatta Kamp and super group Teargas among others....CaraCara vid below...

5FM has under gone a lot of changes since the open letter first made headlines... The departure of shock-jock Gareth Cliff prompted the station to poach some top talent from Gauteng youth station Y-FM in what appeared to the general public as an attempt to make the national youth station more inclusive of young black listeners. The line-up reshuffled which saw DJ Fresh move from the highly successful Drive time slot on which the legendary former YFM DJ pioneered the ultimix slot which has become the station's most popular feature of all-time. New faces at 5FM include DJ Warras and Tumi Voster who took over Roger Goode's show after the latter was promoted to a drive-time slot. Big Brother Mzansi contestant Sol Phenduka joined the Fresh breakfast team & his fellow YFM colleague Thando Thabethe now hosts the weekend day-time slot Beats By Demand on Sundays. This past weekend she announce that CaraCara by Teargas's KO which features Kid-X of Boom Shakalaka fame has been added to the play list. The song which Kwesta hailed as the biggest Hip-hop song in the country has been the top local song on the iTunes charts for some weeks now and is also at the centre of a row between Kwesta and rap superstar AKA whose single Congratulate was knocked of the number 1 spot by CaraCara. The much talked about beef was sparked when AKA took exception to Kwesta tweeting that Doc Shebeleza is the biggest song in the country followed by CaraCara. There's no love lost between AKA and Cassper Nyovest with them exchanging sub-tweets regularly and AKA going on Y-FM to say he's smarter than both Nyovest and Kwesta in a recent interview. Kwesta challenged AKA to settle their differences in a battle on the DJ Fresh breakfast show AKA declined.

This year’s fitting tribute, also supported by The Playhouse, an agency of the Department of Arts and Culture, follows the previous two year’s sell-out performances that paid tribute to Sophiatown in 2012, and to the youth with a special focus on education in 2013.
