MILKSHAKE, MICASA AND DINO BRAVO TURN IT UP FOR UNILIVER:

The global FMCG company that dominates all retail stores with its relevant and essential products that fill our households, rewarded its staff with a two day excursion to Suncity. The excursion was to reward and thank their employees for the outstanding work they have done last fiscal. The excursion started with a party at the Valley of the Waves in Suncity on the 25 of June with Dj Milkshake being the major act of the night. Milkshake proved why he is the best urban dj in the country. For many Djs it would be difficult to successfully cater to a wide range of demographics all at one event, the staff ranged from young junior managers to mature executives of different races and tastes, however Milkshake with his flexible, adaptive and insane talent turned the party up playing diverse music from the 50s bringing it back to the 21s century. The employees and executives were so impressed and captivated by the djing that when the party came to an end at the Valley of the Waves they asked if Milkshake could move to a different venue inside Suncity so the party could continue, which of course Milkshake accepted. The party continued till 4am.

The following day was a Gala Dinner setup where the employees of Uniliver were formally dressed in their gowns and suites. The Dinner saw various employees getting rewarded for outstanding performances and excellence, while company objectives and targets were shared for the new fiscal.

Micasa and Dino Bravo were the major acts of the night, with Micasa being the first entertainers of the evening. The performance by Micasa was mind blowing, they brought a live band, and all their music was performed live while taking the crowd through a journey of where they come from. The performance was both emotional and exciting. J Sometihng the crowd favourite charmed all the ladies and almost got them down on their knees with his immaculate voice. The crowd did not want Micasa to get off stage after the performance, they encored for Micasa until they came back on stage to do one more song.

Dino was the Dj of the night that turned the serious evening into a party. Plenty of the staff went back to their rooms to change from heels to more comfortable shoes after they heard Dino play+. Dino is surely one of the best djs in the country, his ability and understanding of music and djing was the highlight of the night. He made the night.

SIMPIWE DANA TAKES A TRIP TO THE HEADQUARTERS OF THE AFRICAN UNION

Soul star Simphiwe Dana recently took a life-changing trip to the headquarters of the African Union

Tell us about your recent trip to the African Union (AU) in Addis Ababa.
I was first invited in March to be part of a round table on African development and languages.
I was so excited. I requested a meeting with the chairperson of the AU, our very own Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma. She has written the African Union Agenda 2063. It’s a beautiful dream that details a future vision of Africa.
It’s a letter from the year 2063 to tell Kwame Nkrumah about how Africa has developed in the future. It’s so beautiful I cried when I read it. However, she had not elaborated on how the creative industries fit into developing the continent.
I made an example of how before MTV Base started pumping Nigerian music, we were so wary of Nigerians. Now we see them as beautiful. We can trust and do business.
Then she said: ‘You go and gather your fellow artists, and write the arts and culture chapter of the AU’s Agenda 2063, and I give you just under two months to do it.’

That’s incredible. How many artists did you gather and where is the process now?
In the end we got 120 artists, drawn from each of the 50 member states. We produced the document. We want it to be a living document that is reviewed every year.

You recently released a single, Nzima, which is to appear on your forthcoming album. The music video is explicitly about Marikana?
When Marikana happened on August 16 2012, two months after June 16, I wrote an article about my initial reaction.
The shock, the awe and everything about it that left me traumatised as a black person. It took me a long time to process it. I remember a lot of us artists called one another and talked about doing something.
But we were all confused and shocked. Time went by and we didn’t do anything. One day while I was sitting in the studio working on another song, it hit me that we are still serving the master and are willing to kill one another to please the master.
We are still wounded psychologically. That’s how the song came to me.

MASHAYEBHUQE KAMAMBA DIGITAL MASKANDI IS THE NEW HIP HOP WAVE

Artist Mashayebhuqe KaMamba (real name Ntsikelelo Ndlovu)

Every now and again a wave of talent hits the music industry!
One such artist riding the wave is newcomer Mashayebhuqe KaMamba.
Born Ntsikelelo Ndlovu, he creates digital maskandi that fuses traditional maskandi with futuristic sounds that will catch your ears from the first beat.
His single, Afrikan Lordz, firsthit the streets and earned him some popularity and in 2013 he dropped his EP, titled The Black Excellence Show.
The musician grew up in the small township of Emandeni in KZN and his family later moved to Eshowe.
He told Daily Sun: “I hated the rap music lifestyle, the baggy clothes and drugs, but I understand it now.
“Growing up I wanted to become an actor. A couple of friends and I would perform plays.
“We went to audition for a show at the SABC studios in Durban in 2006 and got ‘chosen’ for a movie.
“We had to come to Jozi and it turned out to be a scam.”
He said the good thing that came out of the trip was meeting and connecting with people from Joburg.
He was given a chance to be in a trio and get into music, but later went solo, becoming the artist we now know as Mashaya.
The term “digital maskandi” that describes his sound was started by outfit Dirty Paraffin. “I regard myself as an artist. “My family and friends have been my pillar of strength.”
He said music means life for him and he does not think there can be life without music: “It paints our struggle, emotions and who we are.”
Mashaya is influenced by the likes of the late Busi Mhlongo, James Blake, Kanye West, Simphiwe Dana and Thandiswa Mazwai.
He loves his own pictures and looks at them every day. Mashaya says he thinks of himself as a good actor, loves fashion and always makes an effort to step out looking good.
Performing at the Back To The City festival was one of the highlights of his career. Now he is all set to take the South African music scene by storm!

Khuli Chana case ready for trial

The Randburg Magistrate's Court says trial against two police officers accused of shooting at musician Khuli Chana will begin in September.

A trial date has been set for September 8. Mduduzi Mfundisi Nzuza and Sam Baloyi face charges of attempted murder, reckless endangerment, failure to take reasonable precautions to avoid danger, and negligent use of a firearm.
The pair allegedly shot at the award-winning musician's car when he failed to stop at a roadblock they had set up at a petrol station on the N1 in Midrand on October 28.
Chana, whose real name is Khulane Morule, was wounded in the hand and back.
Police had been searching for a group of men who kidnapped a Bedfordview, Johannesburg, businessman.
The officers allegedly mistook Chana's luxury sedan for that of the kidnappers.
The ransom money was to have been left at the petrol station. A police officer has since been arrested and charged with the kidnapping. A warrant of arrest for Nzuza was cancelled on Friday when he produced his mother's death certificate.
He had failed to make his last court appearance due to her death. Both men are out on bail.

CASSPER NYOVEST LOSES BMW DEAL DUE TO INAVAILABILITY OF A DRIVER'S LICENSE

South African rapper Refiloe Maele Phoolo AKA Cassper Nyovest was on Metro FM with television presenter/Metro FM DJ T-Bo Touch on Monday 09 June 2014 and T-Bo Touch sealed a deal between BMW and rapper Cassper Nyovest live on air.

Cassper Nyovest's recent hit song 'Gusheshe', which features OkMalumKoolKat triggered a BMW deal. T-Bo facilitated a sponsorship deal with beamer during his "TouchDown326" radio show.you can watch the video below...

Djsproduction crew heard it from a very reliable source that Cassper Nyovest lost the BMW deal because he failed to produce his driver's license. The "Gusheshe and Doc shebeleza hit maker" was suppose to be a proud owner of a brand new BMW 2 series-a swanky ride that's a step up from Cassper's 'Gusheshe', a local slang term that refers to a BMW 325 iS model usually pre 1993. The then thrilled rapper took to twitter not knowing that deal would require him to have a driver's license said:
"The big homie @iamtbotouch just hooked me up with a 2 series live on air. Called Beamer and hooked up the deal live".

Cassper Nyovest 's Tsholofelo Album Out 31st July

Cassper Nyovest ,Born Refiloe Maele Phoolo on 16 December 1990 in a Mafikeng village called Montshiwa. Has finally released the cover of his most anticipated album which is due for release at the end of July . Although Cassper had originally set the release date for the album some time in May. Lets hope the wait was all worth it.
Cassper was inspired by his late brother “Khotso Motebang Phoolo” who was a rapper but sadly passed on in 2003, Cassper decided to take on the music world and hasn’t looked back since.
He went from being a member of CHG (Childhood Gangsters) in 2004, but broke away as ideas matured in different directions. Later on in the same year joined another group “Slow Motion” which had 8 members including producer Ganja Beatz of “Feel D” Dream Entertainment.

In 2008 at age 17 Cassper got a record deal with “Impact Sounds”, arguably the strongest Motswako label at the time with artists like Tuks Senganga & Morafe. After committing 2 full years of his career without signs of his album dropping he decided to part ways with the label to start his own label “Press Play Music”. This came as a major setback and forced him to move back home to his grandmother’s place in Potchefstroom.
Few months down the line he wrote a song “Holla at a Pantsula” to a beat by producer ‘DJ Hypnosis’ which samples the ‘Grove Washington ft Bill Withers song Just the 2 of Us’. The song blew up in his neighbourhood and he decided on an unofficial video which now has 8000+ views on Youtube.
Labels started noticing and calling for work, but amongst these was an artist Cassper grew up looking up to, from the same streets of Montshiwa, Hip Hop Pantsula.

HipHop Pantsula featured Cassper on his album Dumela joint ‘Wam tseba Mtho’, heavily contributing to his respect by the game as a Motswako artist. HHP’s “Wam Tseba Mtour” put him at stages across South Africa. Working with Jabba has boosted Cassper’s young music career to amazing levels, performing all over South Africa multiple times, and crossing over to international shows in Botswana, Ghana, Lesotho, Namibia, and Mozambique. He also toured with HHP and Tuks to UK last December 2011 performing in Camden, London and Milton Keyes.

Cassper also features on HHP’s hit singles ‘Past Time’ and ‘Padapa’. His single “Wahala” ft Young Slugz from his debut album, I Love You/Tsholofelo recently dropped, debuting on Vuzu TV’s V-Entertainment and had an incredible response.
Signed to no major, just a kid from Montshiwa with a Godly vision and nothing but an international dream… A fool’s hope.
